For years, people have been concerned that deep squats could harm their knees. However, science suggests that this concern needs to be reconsidered.

According to a recent study, deep squats can be a safe component of a resistance training program and are not bad for your knees. There is greater trust in the accuracy of the results because the researchers only examined 15 studies that satisfied stringent requirements and had a minimal risk of bias. Upon close examination, only one case study indicated a potential risk of harm. When squatting deeply, 93 percent of people lean toward safety.

Not only are they safe, but they may also provide more knee protection.

According to several studies, deep squats have been linked to better joint tissues and thicker, stronger cartilage in the patellar region of the knee. This is because your ligaments get stronger due to cartilage adapting to the strain of a deep squat.

The actual risk is in maintaining good form and lifting only what your body can handle, not what your ego believes you can handle. The main factor here is to make sure you keep your head facing forward rather than looking up, as this will cause compression at the top of your spine.

Once you have the basic squat perfected, the possibilities of where you can take it are endless. In our next post, we will look at squat variations, so keep your eyes peeled!

Instead of focusing on the depth of your squats, concentrate more on your technique to protect your knees as you gain strength. You may get the benefits of squatting fearlessly if you have the proper mobility, exercise control, and gradually increase the load.
