Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: A Classic set up?

(c) 2024 Most Valuable Promotions

One of the oldest stories in the boxing game, is the old retired champion coming out of retirement to fight a young and up coming fighter. This has been featured in many movies and tv plots over the year with such films, a Million Dollar Baby, Rocky, Creed, etc...

Is Tyson too old, and far past his prime? At 58 years old, is he fit? I believe that everyone would agree, Paul's chance in winning against a 27 year old Tyson would be none exist. Tyson is considered by many one of the most brutal fighters of modern era.

Age of course is a factor in combat sports, but power is the last thing to go. In watching Tyson's current videos, he still demonstrates power and speed both, far superior to many fighters half his age. While writing this article I reviewed all of Tyson's fights that were available. He was a beast in his prime and I do not think the outcome would even be contested if we are in the 1990s

Of course what would a boxing match be without statistics ? Let look at how these numbers compare, "Iron Mike" Tyson was the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987-90, and retired in 2005 after winning 50 fights, 44 by knockout. Paul has won nine of 10 fights with six knockouts against mostly undistinguished opponents. His only loss came last year to Tommy Fury, half-brother of WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury.

Paul usually fights at the cruiserweight limit and fights the Orthodox stance. Tyson is a heavyweight and fights from the orthodox stance as well. Neither are Southpaws.

Fighting Style Comparison:

Tyson and his trainers believed that fighting in the orthodox stance provided him with certain advantages over most of his opponents. By leading with his left foot, Tyson could utilize his powerful left hook as his primary weapon, which became one of the most feared and devastating punches in boxing history. Tyson's unique “Peek-a-boo style” is a fading art in boxing. It's a form of aggressive defense that empowers practitioners to charge on the offensive, moving forward in angles, while being fairly well-protected from counterpunches. It's a concept trainer D'Amato has developed over the years and has been utilized by Tyson with great success through out his career.

What do the fighters say about this upcoming bout?

"My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep," Paul wrote on social media.

"I'm very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas," Tyson said in a statement. "He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a 'kid' can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It's a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him."

The debate has expanded to the World Wide Web with each camp taking to social media platforms. The recent posting from Tyson, https://youtu.be/tHA_dGl8zx8?si=EGiDfTDLz-SN9bQS, (C) 2024 @miketyson) shows a active Tyson sparing. While Jake Paul counters with a video of his own, https://youtu.be/WKx1LebwBLs?si=jhjUArDvKCw11rd- of Paul mocking Tyson. Paul, a experience You-Tuber has flooded his channel with comments about the fight taking full advantage of his YouTube Followers.

All the details have yet to be drawn up for Paul vs. Tyson, with many questioning if it will be a pro competition or exhibition. That will be up to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The fight is scheduled for July 20,2024, and will be at the AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, which can seat about 80,000 people. It's unclear how many seats would be available for the Paul-Tyson fight.

During his career, Paul has pocketed over $87 million in total earnings, and this could even be doubled after his showdown with heavyweight icon Tyson. Most Valuable Promotions ( https://www.mostvaluablepromotions.com// ) the sponsor for the event is being the first live sports event ever on Netflix.

Prediction:

Every sport commentator has made various predicaitons regarding the outcome of this fight. I believe that the outcome will intiaill be determined once the Texas Boxing Commission determines if this a going to be a sanction professional fight.
